Okay grab a hook and your yarn and let’s jump into it!
Foundation Row
Start with multiples of 8 chains, plus 6 chains. In the photo below, I chained 16, with an additional 6 chains for a total of 22 chains. Be sure not to chain too tightly.
Work 1 single crochet into the 2nd chain from the hook. *Ch 5, skip 3 ch, 1 sc into the next chain. Repeat from * to end of the row. Turn your work.
Next…
Ch 5 (counts as 1st DC and ch 2), 1 sc into first ch space, *Ch 5, 1 sc into the next ch space. Repeat from * until the last sc is worked into the last ch space. Ch 2, work 1 dc into the sc from the previous row. Turn your work.
Row 1
Ch 1 (does not count as a stitch), 1 sc into the first dc, skip the first ch 2 space, *ch 5, 1 sc into the next ch space, 5 dc into the next sc , 1 sc into the next ch space. Repeat from * until the end, being sure to end with a ch 5. 1 sc into the 3rd ch of the ch 5 at the beginning of the previous row. Turn your work.
Row 2
Ch 5, 1 sc into the first ch space, *ch 5, skip (1 sc and 2 dc), 1 sc into the next dc, ch 5, skip (2 dc and 1 sc), 1 sc in the next ch space. Repeat from * until sc has been worked into the last ch space. Ch 2, work 1 dc into the sc at the beginning of previous row. Turn your work.
Row 3
Ch 1, 1 sc into the first dc, skip the first ch 2 space, *5 dc into the next sc**, 1 sc into the next ch space, ch 5, 1 sc into the next ch space. Repeat from * to the end of the row. Be sure to end last repeat at **. 1 sc into the 3rd ch of the ch 5 at the beginning of the previous row. Turn your work.
Row 4
Ch 5, skip (1 sc and 2 dc), 1 sc into the next dc, *Ch 5, skip (2 dc and 1 sc), 1 sc into next ch space, ch 5, skip (1 sc and 2 dc), 1 sc into the next dc. Repeat from * until sc has been worked in center dc of the last 5-dc group. Ch 2, work 1 dc into the sc at the beginning of the previous row.
And that’s the stitch pattern! Continue your project by working rows 1-4 over and over until desired length is reached. Be sure to end your work on either a row 2 or row 4 in order to straighten the upper edge.
Upper Edge
Like I mentioned before, to straighten off the upper edge of your work be sure to end on either row 2 or row 4.
Ch 1, 1 sc into the first dc, skip the first ch 2 space, *Ch 3, 1 sc into the next ch space. Repeat from * until the end of the row. End last repeat by working 1 sc into the 3rd ch of the ch 5 at the beginning of the previous row.
And there you have it! Thank you for reading and I hope you learned something new today!
