Spring is here again, and that means it’s finally crop top weather! People tend to assume that crochet is just for making hats and scarves, but nowadays that’s just not the case. Crochet is so adaptable, and I’m so happy to see that more and more designers are stepping out of the box and showing that crochet can be modern too! I’ve always like to challenge myself to show the different sides of fiber art, especially when it comes to making garments and are now showing that crochet can be modern too.
The Wrap Me Up Crop is the perfect staple crochet top for your closet this summer. In addition to being a cropped style wrap top, it also features a simple yet chic eyelet design on the shoulder. My goal for this crochet wrap top was for it to be simple to make, with a very basic design. The reason being is because I wanted to have a base top that can be easily customized to fit anyone’s style. So whether you want a crop top, a mini crop, or a full length top, the Wrap Me Up Crop can be made to fit those needs.
The Yarn
Come on…ya’ll know me by now. This sample was made with Hobby Lobby’s I Love This Yarn, like many of my other garment projects (Check out the Delilah Sweater). It comes in skeins of approx. 355 yards and is my go to acrylic yarn time and time again. I don’t know about you guys, but I don’t always have the funds for fancy yarn, so for the texture and the price, I Love This Yarn is a winner in my book. It also gives me an excuse to roam around Hobby Lobby, but that another story for another post. I used about 810 yards (2.5 skeins) of this yarn to create the Wrap Me Up Crop in a 48″ bust or a 2XL.
The Inspiration
Although this season is not going according to plan due to the state of the world right now, I find comfort in knowing that we still have the ability to create and nothing can stop those creative juices from flowing. Even when life gets hard, keep creating. Trouble doesn’t last always, and you will come out on the other side of this. I promise.
